Jean-Marc da Costa
The 1958 Swiss born Jean-Marc da Costa studied Industrial Design at the Design University in Offenbach. He met Manfred Wolf there, together they founded the company Serienlightning in 1983.
Costa also designed his first lamp in 1983, the Lift pendant lamp. He himself calls the shaping of his Lift lamp a fine-mechanic-aesthetic and understands it simultaneously as a sort of trademark for the serien.lightning company. Lift meanwhile became a modern design classic and is also displayed in the Design Center Stuttgart in the Vitra Design Museum collection in Weil am Rhein.
Further designs of da Costa are the lamps Basis and Reflex (both of 1984), Birdie (1990), Cosy (1992), Club (1996), SLM (1998) and the floor lamp Slice (2004). Besides the Red Dot Design Award, the iF Design Award and the Federal Republic Prize in silver for his SLM lamp series, Jean-Marc da Costa also received further design awards.
